A hydrostatic test begins by removing a toilet on the first floor of your home or business. An inflatable ball is inserted into the drain pipe for about half and hour, blocking the entire plumbing system. The water level of the removed toilet is studied over during the duration of the test. If the water levels drop, there are leaks in your plumbing system. If the water level remains the same, your plumbing system has no leaks and there is no need for a repair.
If a leak is found, we begin an isolation test. We block off and test several sections of your plumbing system. This helps us to locate the area the leak or leaks are occurring at. Once they are located, we draw up a schematic of your plumbing system and determine a solution to fix the leaks from there. The solution can be as simple as replacing a pipe section or a complete redirect of your system. The solution depends on the complexity of the leak and where it is located.
If your are looking to purchase a home, please have a hydrostatic test done before you buy. The current owners may be unaware of any leaks and a hydrostatic test can help detect issues before your buy. If the home's foundation has been recently leveled, the leaks can appear due to hyperextension.
